On March 7, 2026, Yuri Petrovich Salamatov, a TRIZ Master, PhD in engineering, a true teacher, scientist, inventor, director of the Institute of Innovative Design, and a man whose name is forever etched in the history of the development of the theory of inventive problem solving, passed away after a serious illness.
Yuri Salamatov was born in 1945 to a working-class family. He graduated with honors from the Krasnoyarsk Polytechnic Institute. In 1970, he entered graduate school at the Moscow Civil Engineering Institute, where he received the title of PhD in engineering.
Yuri Salamatov dedicated over 40 years of his life to TRIZ. His journey began with an in-depth study of engineering disciplines, which became the foundation for the further development and exploration of the TRIZ methodology. As early as the 1980s, he began applying the theory in practice, and subsequently developed his own approach to solving inventive problems.
He made an invaluable contribution to the dissemination and improvement of TRIZ and is the author of 60 inventions and more than 60 publications, including several landmark works. His books and lectures have inspired thousands of engineers, inventors and educators around the world.
Yuri Salamatov is the founder and director of the regional public association "TRIZ Krasnoyarsk," which has become the center for the development of methodology in Siberia. Since 2003, he has been the chairman of the regional certification commission of MATRIZ (International TRIZ Association), responsible for assessing the qualifications of specialists.
Yuri Salamatov didn't limit himself to theoretical research; he actively implemented TRIZ in industry, completing 42 innovative projects with over 500 invention-level concepts. He collaborated with major companies, including Procter & Gamble (USA, 1995–1999) and SANYO (Japan, 2003). The developments he contributed to have found application in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction, chemistry, biotechnology, oil refining, and medicine.
The cherished memory of Yuri Petrovich Salamatov will live on in his works, his students, and all who strive for creative solutions to complex problems. His legacy is a bridge between classical TRIZ and the new horizons of innovative thinking.
